"Ethik, Sammlungen und Geschichte der Medizin" is an organizational unit of the Medical University of Vienna, which emerged from the Medical University of Vienna in 2004. It is the successor to the former Institute for the History of Medicine and is located in the "Josephinum", which was founded by Joseph II in 1785 as a medical-surgical academy.
The historical collections were spun off in 2014 and are managed and curated by Josephinum – Medical Collections GmbH, which also runs the Medical History Museum of Vienna.
Since 2016, the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics has also been part of this organizational unit.
